Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival, a Lion King representative will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your luxurious accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you’ll have the chance to unwind and prepare for the adventure that lies ahead.
Arusha, a vibrant hub in northern Tanzania, serves as a key gateway for safari enthusiasts. It's an essential stop for most travelers, offering a glimpse into the lively culture and bustling energy that define the region. Enjoy your first night in this dynamic city before embarking on your safari journey.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, your Lion King Safari guide will meet you at your accommodation and drive you to Tarangire National Park. The journey takes approximately two and a half hours on well-maintained tarmac roads. Named after the Tarangire River, which winds through the park, this “river of warthogs” is the lifeline for wildlife during the dry season.
Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant herds, often seen gathering around the river. You might also encounter giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, all of which attract a variety of predators including lions and leopards. The park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, boasting more breeding bird species than anywhere else in the world. You'll also marvel at the ancient Baobab trees scattered throughout the park, some of which are believed to be over a thousand years old.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the park. After an exciting game drive, you’ll transfer to your accommodation near Tarangire for the evening, where you can relax and reflect on your day's adventures.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you'll embark on a drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet remarkably diverse park. Its unique characteristics are striking—compact in size (one of the narrowest parks in Africa) yet breathtakingly dramatic, with the Great Rift Escarpment rising majestically along the park's western edge.
The park is named after its centerpiece, the shallow, salt Lake Manyara. This lake, which expands and contracts with the seasons, is a haven for thousands of wading birds, including flamingos, and supports over 500 bird species in total. The surrounding landscape is equally captivating, with thick evergreen forests where you might spot baboons and elephants. Lake Manyara is also renowned for its tree-climbing lions, a rare and fascinating sight that draws attention from around the world.
After a day of exploration and wildlife sightings, you’ll take a short drive to your accommodation in Karatu for a restful evening.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you'll drive up into the cooler highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with an opportunity to pause and take in the breathtaking views of the Ngorongoro Crater. From there, continue your journey through the conservation area to the Serengeti, entering at the park’s southern entrance.
The Serengeti is renowned for its stunning open grasslands, which provide exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. Known for its rich biodiversity, the park is especially famous for the Great Migration. Each year, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes follow an ancient route in search of fresh grazing, creating one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on the planet. Depending on the time of year, you might witness different phases of this incredible migration, as these herds traverse the Serengeti’s vast expanses.
Day 5: Serengeti National Park
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Serengeti on exhilarating game drives. The park's diverse wildlife includes impalas, buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos, offering a rich tapestry of animal encounters. As you traverse the iconic landscapes, you have excellent chances of spotting some of the Serengeti's top predators, including lions, cheetahs, and leopards.
If the Great Migration is in progress, your game drives may take you beyond the Central Serengeti to witness this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon. Witnessing the immense herds of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes as they move in search of fresh grazing is a truly transformative experience. Your day in the Serengeti promises to be filled with unforgettable moments and remarkable wildlife sightings.
Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, you'll embark on a drive from Serengeti National Park to the Ngorongoro Crater. As you approach, you'll encounter a landscape that feels like a hidden world. The Ngorongoro Crater, encircled by towering volcanic walls, reveals a pristine wilderness of sweeping savannahs, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption and collapse two to three million years ago, this natural marvel offers a unique glimpse into a bygone era.
The descent into the crater is a thrilling adventure. Once you reach the floor, you'll be surrounded by abundant wildlife, including herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. The crater is renowned for its excellent chances of spotting the endangered black rhino, often seen in the open grasslands.
After a rewarding afternoon exploring the crater, you'll head to your accommodation in Kitela for dinner and a restful overnight stay, reflecting on the day’s extraordinary experiences.
Day 7: Karatu to Arusha
On your final day, you'll be driven from Karatu to your next destination, whether it be Arusha Town, Arusha Airport, or Kilimanjaro Airport. The timing of your transfer will be tailored to fit your onward travel plans, ensuring a smooth and convenient departure. Enjoy your journey as you reflect on the unforgettable safari experiences you've had and the stunning landscapes you've explored.
