Day By Day
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Active Planet Safaris representative will greet you and escort you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can either unwind at the luxurious Gran Melia Arusha or explore the bustling town. Gran Melia offers a tranquil escape with lush gardens, a spa, and beautiful views of Mount Meru. Arusha is known as the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit, and it’s where many travelers begin their adventures. In the evening, you can enjoy a relaxing dinner at your hotel (meals and drinks at your own expense).
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast at Gran Melia Arusha, your guide will pick you up and drive you to Tarangire National Park. Famous for its large elephant herds and unique baobab trees, Tarangire offers a stunning landscape and great wildlife viewing. The Tarangire River attracts various species, particularly during the dry season when animals gather around the riverbanks. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park while watching the wildlife. In the afternoon, you’ll transfer to Kitela Lodge, set in the rolling hills of the Ngorongoro highlands. The lodge offers beautiful views, organic gardens, and a peaceful atmosphere.
Day 3: Karatu to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart Karatu and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you’ll stop at the Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint for a breathtaking look at the vast caldera below. Continuing on, you’ll enter the Serengeti National Park from the southern region, known for its sweeping grasslands and spectacular wildlife. The Serengeti is renowned for its role in the Great Migration, a natural wonder where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and antelope move in search of fresh grazing. Depending on the season, your guide will help you locate the herds. After a day of exploration, enjoy a picnic lunch before heading to Nyota Luxury Camp in Central Serengeti, where you’ll stay in a luxury tented camp that combines comfort with the magic of being in the wild.
Day 4: Full Day in Serengeti National Park
This full day in the Serengeti is devoted to game drives and wildlife exploration. Early morning game drives are ideal for spotting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, as they are most active during the cooler hours. You’ll also see large herds of grazers, including zebras, buffalo, and elephants, roaming the plains. The Serengeti’s iconic landscape of acacia trees and vast open savannahs creates a perfect backdrop for photography. Enjoy lunch back at Nyota Camp or opt for a picnic in the park. The afternoon can be spent on another game drive or relaxing at the camp.
Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, head towards Ngorongoro Crater, an awe-inspiring geological feature and one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations. Created by the collapse of a massive volcano, the crater is a natural sanctuary for wildlife. As you descend into the crater, you’ll witness a remarkable ecosystem where thousands of animals coexist, including wildebeest, zebras, hippos, and the rare black rhino. With over 500 species of birds, Ngorongoro is also a birder’s paradise. After a day of exploration, you’ll ascend the crater rim and drive to Ngorongoro Lion's Paw Camp, a luxury camp nestled in the rim’s lush greenery, offering stunning views of the crater below.
Day 6: Lake Manyara and Return to Arusha
On your final day, you’ll visit Lake Manyara National Park, known for its dramatic scenery and diverse wildlife. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which can sometimes be seen lounging in the trees. The park’s namesake, Lake Manyara, is a shallow, alkaline lake that attracts thousands of flamingos and other wading birds. During your game drive, you might also spot baboons, elephants, and giraffes. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, then make your way back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, where your unforgettable safari adventure will conclude.
