6-Day Machame Route
Embark on a 6-day adventure via the Machame Route and conquer Mount Kilimanjaro with a private climb tailored to your preferred travel dates and desires. Our expert guides will lead you every step of the way to the highest peak in Africa!
Arrive in Tanzania and transfer to your hotel in Moshi for overnight accommodation and preparation for the climb.
After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, a journey of about 1 hour. We then begin our trek through the lush rain forest along a winding trail to Machame Camp.
We depart from Machame Camp and ascend a steep ridge through heath and moorland. We cross a river gorge and continue onto the Shira Plateau to reach Shira Camp.
We continue eastward up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower, a 300-ft volcanic rock formation. We descend through the Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp, benefiting from a higher altitude for acclimatization.
We start the day with a descent into the Great Barranco, followed by a steep ascent up the Great Barranco Wall. We continue past the Heim and Kersten glaciers, reaching the Karanga Valley for water before heading through scree to Barafu Camp.
Our summit attempt begins around midnight. This challenging ascent will lead us to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro and in Africa. After reaching the summit, we descend to Millennium Camp, passing through rocky terrain and possibly experiencing rain or mist in the late afternoon.
On the final day, we descend to Mweka Gate, where we collect our summit certificates. The lower elevations may be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue to Mweka Village, where a vehicle will transport us back to Moshi Town.
