6-Day Umbwe Route Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Preparation

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will be met by our team and transferred to your accommodation. Take this day to rest, prepare, and adjust to the altitude. Our guides will conduct a briefing to review your gear and discuss the upcoming climb. Enjoy a relaxing evening in Moshi or Arusha, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp

Begin your trek from the Umbwe Gate, ascending through lush rainforest. As you navigate the dense foliage, keep an eye out for diverse wildlife and unique plant species. The trail gradually steepens as you approach Umbwe Camp, where you'll settle in for the night. Take in the serene surroundings and prepare for the climb to come.

Day 3: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

Continue your trek through the rain forest and enter the moorland zone. The terrain becomes more rugged and scenic, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. You’ll arrive at Barranco Camp, situated in a spectacular location beneath the imposing Barranco Wall. This camp offers stunning vistas and a chance to acclimatize before tackling the climb.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today’s trek involves climbing the Barranco Wall, a thrilling and rewarding ascent with panoramic views. After reaching the top, descend to the Karanga Valley and continue to Karanga Camp. This day provides an excellent opportunity to acclimate and marvel at the majestic landscapes of the mountain.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Ascend from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, located at a higher altitude. The path becomes more challenging as you approach the base camp for your final summit push. Take time to rest and hydrate at Barafu Camp, and prepare for the summit attempt scheduled for the following night.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Summit and Descent to Mweka Camp

Your summit bid begins early, with a midnight departure to reach the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in the early morning hours. Experience the incredible sunrise from the summit, known as Uhuru Peak, and relish the achievement of standing on Africa’s highest point. Afterward, descend to Mweka Camp, where you’ll celebrate your accomplishment and rest.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Complete your trek by descending from Mweka Camp to the Mweka Gate. After reaching the gate, you'll receive your summit certificate in recognition of your achievement. Transfer back to your accommodation for a well-deserved rest and reflect on the incredible journey you’ve completed.
